Family and Children’s Trust Fund of Virginia Awards $144,000 in Grants to Virginia Organizations Supporting Family Violence Prevention

11/18/2025 – For Immediate Release

Richmond, Va. – The Family and Children’s Trust Fund of Virginia has awarded $144,000 in ad-hoc grants to 29 organizations across the Commonwealth to strengthen the prevention, treatment and public awareness of family violence, including child abuse, domestic violence, sexual assault and elder abuse.

The FACT Board of Trustees approved the first round of Fiscal Year 2026 ad-hoc grants during its September meeting. The funding is part of FACT’s $300,000 allocation for ad-hoc grant support this fiscal year, aimed at providing targeted resources to local governments and nonprofit organizations serving Virginia families.

Grant recipients represent a wide range of initiatives addressing critical needs in their communities, from trauma-informed care and community education to support services for victims and families. Some examples include:

  • A statewide professional development opportunity: the “nexEO 2025” conference and the Virginia Community Health Workers Association (VACHWA) Conference received grant support to bring together practitioners from across Virginia to deepen knowledge, share best practices, and strengthen networks in the prevention and treatment of family violence.
  • A training initiative for prosecutors and victim-advocates: FACT funded a project by Prosecutors’ Alliance of Virginia to develop a trauma-responsive training curriculum informed by survivor listening sessions, helping legal teams respond more effectively to cases of family violence.
  • Capacity-building grants to strengthen local organizations: For example, Henrico County Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) Inc., LGBT Life Center, Voices for Virginia’s Children, and CASA of Central Virginia each received funding for strategic planning, staff or volunteer training, or equipment upgrades to enhance their inclusive services and organizational effectiveness.

A full list of organizations receiving funding can be found on FACT’s website.

“FACT’s ad-hoc grants allows us to be responsive to emerging needs and innovative solutions happening in communities across Virginia,” said Nicole Poulin, FACT executive director. “These investments help local governments and nonprofits enhance prevention and intervention services, strengthen partnerships, and build safer, more resilient families.”

FACT will release an updated grant application for additional ad hoc grants in January.
